Objective

Problems of industrial and technological research require a vast amount of experimentation. The scientific way of planning experiments and analyzing the resulting data using statistical principles is of paramount interest among the researchers and practitioners. The proposed program would attempt to expose these participants from various fields to the concepts, principles and methodologies of Statistical Design and Analysis of Experiments as well as the link between such concepts and real life engineering / scientific activities through classroom experiments and case studies.

Who can Apply

Teachers, Researchers, Final‐year post graduate students and Practitioners from Universities/ Colleges/ Institutes/ Government Offices, etc. located in North eastern India, who are using statistics in their work. The applicant with science and/or engineering background, for example – Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, Agriculture & Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgy etc.) are eligible to apply. The program will be especially useful for persons who require to conduct experiments and analyse the resultant data to draw conclusions as a part of their research work/ regular activities.

Certificate of Attendance will be provided only to candidates who attend ALL the sessions.

Resource Persons

Three faculty members from SQC & OR Unit, Kolkata, Indian Statistical Institute will be taking the lectures. All the faculty members have vast experience in statistical consulting in various fields of application.

Selected candidates will be informed of their selection by e‐mail by October 22, 2016.

Accommodation and Food

Outstation participants will be paid a maximum of Rs. 500 per day (for a maximum of three days) for meeting boarding and lodging expenses, subject to their attendance in all sessions of the programme and production of actual bills. Outstation participants will have to make their own arrangements for boarding and lodging, though local organizers may be able to provide some assistance for finding accommodation. The local coordinator, Dr. Amal Kumar Agarwala, may be contacted for hotel details sufficiently before the programme. There is no daily allowance for local participants. Working lunch and snacks will be provided to all participants free of cost on all three days.

Travelling Allowance

Outstation participants will be reimbursed for return fare by train (AC 3‐tier)/bus by the shortest route, subject to submission of ticket or money receipt.
