In recognition to the notable contributions made by (late) Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the fields of statistics and economic planning, the Government of India has been celebrating his birth Anniversary, on 29th June, as “Statistics Day”. Like the previous years, this year also Department of Statistics, Arya Vidyapeeth College (Autonomous), celebrated Statistics Day on 29th June by arranging an online talk on “Risk Management in Banking”. The talk was delivered by Iftikhar Rahman, an alumnus of the department. Mr. Rahman is presently working as Risk Manager, Data Protection officer (DPO) & DMLRO, Bank of India, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai. All the students and faculty members of the department participated in the talk. A few faculty members and students from other departments of the College also took part. The talk is the third of its kind arranged on the occasion of Statistics Day on 29th June every year.
Mr. Rahman spoke in details about the applications of different probability distributions which are widely used in risk management. He also spoke about different risk management models that are used in banking sector. Mr. Rahman highlighted different career avenues for the students of Statistics, especially in the banking sector. At the end he replied to various queries put forwarded by the students.
