International Lecture-Cum-Interactive Session at Arya Vidyapeeth College Autonomous

The Internationalisation Wing of Arya Vidyapeeth College in association with the Institutional Biotech Hub of the college on 30/3/24 arranged a vibrant interaction of Retd. Prof. Ramesh (Zimbo) Boonratana of Mahidol University, Thailand with students from various departments of the college on the topic: “Ecosystem Resilience & Sustainable Conservation Strategies: Nurturing Biodiversity in Northeast India”

Prof. Ramesh (ZIMBO) Boonratana Retd. Professor (Conservation Biology) Mahidol University, Thailand Regional Vice Chair IUCN SSC(Primate Specialist Group) Editor-in-Chief, Asian Primates Journal spoke on the various aspects of the conservation issues and challenges of North East India and how to align the same with the SDGs to get effective outcomes. He highlighted unique collaborative solutions. He voiced that the Act East policy will only be effective if the new generation comes up with viable solutions to the challenges. He also dealt with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity framework which is a pathway to achieve the SDGs. The interaction was productive and would lead to a fruitful future. The program was inaugurated by the Principal of the College Dr. Pradip Kumar Bhattacharyya and was also graced by the Chairman of the Governing body Prof. Jogen Chandra Kalita HoD Zoology and Dean of Science Gauhati University. The main organisers were Dr. Chhandashree Bhuyan who heads the Internationalisation Wing and Dr. Jinu Lagachu who is the Co-ordinator of the IBT Hub of the college. The program was anchored by Dr. Anindita Deka.
