Celebration of the birth anniversary of Jnanpith Awardee Shri Nilmani Phookan

The Literary Cell, in collaboration with IQAC and the Department of Assamese, celebrated the birth anniversary of Jnanpith Awardee Shri Nilmani Phookan on September 10, 2024. Dr. Gitanjali Hazarika, a renowned author and Associate Professor in the Department of Assamese at Arya Vidyapeeth College (Autonomous), delivered a lecture on Shri Nilmani Phookan’s contribution to Assamese literature. In her lecture, Dr. Hazarika explored some of his major works, highlighting how the legendary poet illuminated the cultural landscape of Assam and beyond through his profound poetry.

Following the lecture, a prize distribution ceremony was held for the winners of the Short Story Writing Competition, organized in Shri Nilmani Phookan’s honour. The program was attended by a large number of enthusiastic students and teachers. The judges of the competition, Mr. Birenchi Kumar Pegu and Dr. Ditee Moni Baruah, graced the occasion and encouraged the students to embark on their own creative journeys.
