An interactive session program titled “SCIENCE FOR THE SOCIETY” was conducted on 07/10/2023 by the Advanced Level Institutional Biotech Hub of the College with the patronage of the Principal, Arya Vidyapeeth College (Autonomous) and under the guidance of the Dean of Science and its Nodal Department, Zoology, Arya Vidyapeeth College (Autonomous). The resource person of the programme was Prof. Bidyut Kumar Sarmah, Director, DBT-NECAB, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. The programme was graced by Prof. Jogen Ch. Kalita, Dean of Science and Head of the Department of Zoology, Gauhati University who is also the Chairman of Governing Body, Arya Vidyapeeth College (Autonomous).

There were 2 sessions – the first with students as well as faculty members and the second was exclusively with faculty members. The resource person began the first session with lucid explanation on why a person needs to tread the scientific World to the experimental aspects of research especially regarding the grain legume chickpea which has a great potential for commercial platforms in not only Assam but the whole of India and abroad. The second session with the faculty members dealt with the tips for getting sanctions for funded projects. Professor Sarmah emphasized that our research should lead to product or technology that benefits our society. The GB chairman assured help to the students and faculty members wherever necessary.

This is a significant activity of the Advanced Level Institutional Biotech hub which is under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Government of India. The program participation had 176 students from the science stream and a galaxy of faculty members of the college.
