The webinar on “Plagiarism & Publication Ethics with reference to Academic Integrity” was organized by Central Library, Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati on 10th July 2021 at 3 pm. The programme started with the brief introduction about the college by Dr. Jyotirupa Sarma, Member, Organising Committee of the Webinar.
Convener Dr. Dalimi Devi has explained the objectives of organising this webinar to the participants. Dr. Pradip Kumar Bhattacharyya, Principal of the college welcomes all the participants and resource person. A total number of 315 participants have joined for the webinar. Among them few international participants like South Africa, Canada also participated. The registration part of this webinar was taken care by Ms. Bijuli Rajiyung, Member, Organising Committee. The main objective of the webinar is to develop understanding about academic integrity, plagiarism & referencing, spreading awareness about UGC guidelines on plagiarism, promoting integrity in academic research publications and empower participants to develop research content of high quality.
The webinar was held on Google meet platform along with live streaming on YouTube for larger benefit. The programme started as per schedule. The Resource Person of the webinar Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, HoD, Department of Library and Information Science, Librarian, KKH Library, Gauhati University focused on academic integrity and explained that increased incidence of compromised publication ethics and deteriorating academic integrity is a growing problem contaminating all domains of research. So, it is important to ensure prevention of academic misconduct including plagiarism in academic writing among students, faculty members and research scholars. Therefore, knowledge about plagiarism now becomes essential for the academic fraternity. The practical demo on plagiarism and interactive approach adopted for the Programme and various case studies was highly appreciated by the participants.
The talk was followed by a lively interactive session where the students and the teachers actively participated. The talk came to an end with a vote of thanks by Ms. Suli Yohana Ayemi, Member, Organising Committee.
