A National webinar on Importance of Gender Awareness was organized on 7th May, 2022 at 7.30 pm on Google Platform. Dr. Pori Hiloidari, Writer & Associate Professor, Department of English, Handique Girls’ College, Guwahati was invited as the resource person for the webinar. Dr. Gitanjali Hazarika, Convener, Internal Complaint Committee welcomed the resource person and the participants and in her inaugural address focussed on the necessity of informing gender inequality and its consequences.Dr. Chanchal Boruah, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics hosted the programme.
In her lecture, Dr. Pori Hiloidari addressed that it is at home that enforces the gender inequality and its awareness can only change the attitudes, behaviours and beliefs of this inequality. She also talked on how the societal values and norms reinforce stereotypes and support the structures that produce inequalities. As such talks, discussions, seminars on gender awareness can generate favourable space for mutual understanding and help in implementing gender equality policies. The webinar was followed by a lively interactive session where the students and the teachers actively participated.Around eighty participants attended the webinar making the programme a success.
